Volunteer Opportunities

"I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live,
it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can."

— George Bernard Shaw

What do you enjoy doing? What community issues are you most concerned about?
There are many opportunities for you to volunteer your time and skill. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Northland Shepherd's Center Meals on Wheels and other volunteer opportunities
Northland Shepherd's Center Meals on Wheels program provides nutritious meals and caring smiles with every delivery. We would not be able to accomplish this mission without volunteers. Currently the MOW program is in need of compassionate hearts to deliver meals.
What our clients are saying:
“I don’t know what I would do without Meals-on-Wheels. Many days it is the only face I see. It is so nice to hear their cheerful voice call out my name. After my fall, I didn’t have the ability to cook for myself. I am ever so grateful for the hot meal and fellowship they provide.”

For more information on volunteering with Meals on Wheels, Transportation, Friendly Visitors, Health Advocate, or Respite, please visit the website: www.northlandsc.org or call the Volunteer Coordinator, Laurie Roebbeke, at 816-452-4536.

Habitat for Humanity KC Restores are looking for volunteers!
Are you looking for a way to put life experiences gained to good use? Or do you just need a place to keep you busy while making valuable friendships? Volunteers contribute to the success of ReStore by greeting, assisting and answering customer questions about products and  materials, and communicating the Habitat for Humanity mission. Tasks can range from assembling furniture, cleaning & organizing the store, landscaping, and assisting the ReStore staff in many ways. We value our volunteers more than we can express!
Call Ken Strickland at 816-231-6889, X 3205 or see; https://habitatkc.org/restorevolunteer/

Community Blood Center of Greater Kansas City has a variety of volunteer positions in their Gladstone location and all over the metro area. Volunteer drivers must also pass a Motor Vehicle Record check and Distracted Driving exam, be comfortable driving in variable road conditions, have a standard license if they reside in KS or a Class E license if they live in MO (we will reimburse after 6 months of service), and complete a ride-along with an experienced volunteer. You can find additional volunteer information at:

Hospice is a special end-of-life care for patients and families when illness no longer responds to cure-oriented methods.

Excelsior Springs Hospice volunteers assist staff in providing support and care to our patients. We offer the opportunity for volunteers to serve in the areas where they feel they can best make a difference. Call 816-629-2733.

Liberty Hospital Hospice is looking for qualified applicants who will contribute positively to hospice patient care and to their families through emotional support, companionship, empathetic listening, simply “being there” and providing practical assistance as needed in the home.  Volunteers will be enthusiastic and positive, relate well with others, be dependable and punctual, listen well without judging, effectively communicate, desire to make a difference for the patient and caregiver, and have genuine care and concern for others. For more information, contact Julie Lippold, Liberty Hospital Hospice Volunteer Coordinator, 816-407-2200 or  email julie.lippold@libertyhospital.org.
